Mozilla Hackathon @Kampabits

We had yet another event to kickoff another year of great web making and hacking,The kampabits webmaker and FirefoxOS  training took place at kampabits here in Kampala which attracted over 30 students,Kampabits is a youth based organization that uses ICT multimedia creatively to improve the lives of less privileged youth from non-formal settlement, it offers ICT training for these youth to give them skills to enable them engage in gainful income generating activities,we had first level students who had knowledge on using CSS,HTML and javasript.
The event was graced by Victor Karanja(Kenyan rep) who together with me had a chat with the institutes program Manager Mr Alex Okwaput on what the institutes goals are, how we(Mozilla community) can help their students grow their talents in web design and we established a relationship with the institution to continue giving support to their student. The event started with Miriam wambo, a trainer at the institution introducing us to the students.
I gave a brief introduction about Mozilla, the community, how to join and contribute and what we do, @Vickyjr then took the students straight through the different webmaker languages which the students had some knowledge about,he tackled FirefoxOS which was the highlight of the event because the students were thrilled by how cool it was to create a web app.
We then went hands on with Hackasaurus and thimble giving chance to students to come forward to create simple pages using the tools.
We would like to thank Miriam for coordinating the entire event and also the entire kampabits staff for working with us
Most asked questions:
  1. How do you guys benefit from all this
  2. What opportunities can we get from Mozilla?
  3. How can we always be in touch with you guys?
  4. You mean you put in all your effort and mobile data to do this and you’re not paid?
But the students were generally thrilled by the passion we have for Mozilla to make the web better and showed a lot of interest.
All thanks to Mozilla for all the support
